Welcome to the first episode of The Mom Mentality Podcast!! This episode will be for you to get to know me a little bit and also clarify my intentions for this podcast and what I hope for you to get out of it.
I am a psychologist, mom, and advocate for maternal mental health
I am a new mom, my son is 13 months old. I experienced a miscarriage prior to conceiving my son. I also went through a traumatic birth experience with my son being born 5 weeks early due to preeclampsia. In early postpartum I experienced PPD and anxiety.
I am a holistic psychologist with a private practice based out of Long Beach NY- virtual and in person. I integrate cognitive behavioral therapy with mindfulness. I also utilize EMDR to treat trauma
My Why's
My first why behind the podcast and reason for my strong need to advocate for maternal mental health is through my own experiences through miscarriage, birth trauma, and postpartum. Within these I noticed just how much of a need there was for mother’s to be seen and cared for.
My second WHY is to create a space that is a judgment free zone. Your mom version of planet fitness if you will lol. I intend to bring to light the parts of new motherhood that are hard and dark and often avoided.
My third WHY is to provide education. As a psychologist I feel that often a huge part of healing is just understanding what you are going through and being more educated on the topic.
My fourth WHY: giving you a space for reflection so that you can tune into your own values and intuition and tune out the NOISE. There is so much noise and “shoulds” out there ( social media, family, friends, doctors, TV).
My fifth WHY: COMMUNITY- Moms need other moms and finding your village (that everyone speaks of) is vital to your well being. My goal with this podcast is for it to become a community where you connect with other moms. My experience in joining a FTSC was truly a pivotal moment in my postpartum experience. The amount of relief I experienced and witnessed in the other moms in the group was so clear and powerful.
Thank you so much for listening! I am so grateful to start this journey with you! Next episode we will be getting into the infamous mom guilt (that often isn’t guilt at all) and how to stop its impact on you.
I know your time is so precious as a mom!
